I started work at the university in 2006. I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow on a newly funded NIHR project: NEWA (National Evaluation of Weight-medication Access) an evaluation of models of care to provide national access to weight management medication in England. The project will involve case studies to assess feasibility, acceptability, safety, and behaviour change in different socio-demographic groups.
I am part funded to complete a ASET Saxton Fellowship which took a qualitative, exploratory approach to understand health promotion in secondary schools in deprived areas. My research focused on a Complex Adaptive Systems approach to support schools to create the conditions for health promotion. I am currently writing this up as a PhD by Publication.
Before this role I worked on several other projects within the Medical School, listed below are the most recent.
Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the SPHR funded project: Understanding the impact of mandatory energy (calorie) labelling policy in out-of- home food environments in England: a mixed methods evaluation of purchase behaviour, population health outcomes, and the views of young people. My role on this project was to explore the views of young people on the calorie labelling policy and their priorities for change within local food environments. This was done in two case study sites using Photovoice to facilitate discussions. I also lead on the involvement of the Young Person’s Advisory Group.
Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the NIHR Southwest Peninsula Applied Research Collaboration (PenARC) Child Health and Maternity Programme. The programme was a three-year programme of research which aimed to find effective ways to implement evidence-based interventions to improve children’s and maternity services widely across England by supporting four implementation studies. My role involved prioritising the implementation studies and working on one of the selected: RIVA (mateRnIty Violence Advisors) an evaluation of models of Independent Domestic Violence Advisor provision in maternity settings.
I also worked as a Coordinator on the Healthy Lifestyles Programme (HeLP), a PenARC supported project. Prior to this I was the Family Involvement Coordinator for PenCRU where I facilitated the involvement of children and their families in the unit’s research programme.
