About me:
I am a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences in the Clinical and Biomedical Sciences department. My career has included academia in the UK (I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy), and the medical communications industry where I worked as a medical writer with global pharmaceutical company clients. My research experience was in universities (Cambridge) and research institutes in the UK and US (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, North Carolina). I have published widely in the cell signalling field (calcium signalling, ion channels, epithelial ion transport including cystic fibrosis, and the antiproliferative effects of polyphenols and novel phytochemicals) as well as in education.
Qualifications:
Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
PGCHE (Kingston University)
PhD (University of Cambridge)
BSc (King’s College, University of London)
Interests:
My main interest is in making effective high impact educational interventions. For example, I invented a card game called WhatThePharma? to help medical, nursing, pharmacy, and other prescribing students learn about clinical pharmacology. The game is available from Focus Games at the following link: Home - What the Pharma (whatthepharmagame.com)
