I obtained my PhD in biomedical engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China. During my PhD, I purified and characterized a plant peptide and studied its regulatory function on insulin secretion in cultured rat beta cells and on glucose metabolism in diabetic mouse models. After my PhD, I moved to Sweden and worked at the Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institute, where I studied the signalling transduction of neuropeptide Galanin through different receptor subtypes using cultured cell lines and Galanin receptor overexpressing mice. Later, I moved to Plymouth University where I studied brain development and peripheral nerve regeneration using both chicken embryos and conditional gene knockout mice as research models. My recent research at Exeter Univerity applied single cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics and multiplexed imaging technologies to identify tissue and organ specific cell types and cell trajectories in human health and diseases.
